We will mark CIW Thanksgiving Week of Action at the Publix supermarket at W. University Avenue and SW 34th Street in Gainesville 5-6 p.m. Monday November 18 once again calling on Publix to join other supermarket chains and fast-food corporations, tomato growers and distributors, and the workers who harvest the tomatoes in the Fair Food Agreement.

We look forward to Trader Joe's - a fair trade fair food retailer - opening their first Gainesville store at Butler Plaza December 12.

Thank you Chipotle!  We're so glad that your corporate management has agreed to sign the Fair Food Agreement and support fair wages and humane working conditions for the people who pick the tomatoes they buy.  Let's show our appreciation by visiting a nearby Chipotle where they now serve food with integrity.

Friday October 5 will be a Day of Prayer for Chipotle Mexican Grill and its personnel.
The Coalition of Immokalee Workers is asking Chipotle to live up to its own claims of
Food with Integrity by joining other fast food chains in signing the Fair Food Agreement
with Florida tomato growers and farm workers.

IAIJ is co-sponsoring a free showing of the film "Made in LA" about Mexican-American garment workers 7 p.m. August 8 at the downtown Alachua County Public Library at East University Blvd. and NE 2nd Street.

WHO IS IAIJ?

We are a bridge connecting immigrant rights organizers with local synagogues, mosques, churches, fellowships, student groups, community organizations, and political and academic leaders that seek to be "Good Neighbors" to the immigrant families struggling for justice in our communities and our state.  Our goal is to educate and equip congregations and groups to partner together with immigrants who are working towards a just solution for our local and national immigration crisis.

How can you and your congregation or group get involved?
Many congregations and community groups have partnered with us since our founding in July 2010, but the following have officially joined Gainesville's Interfaith Alliance for Immigrant Justice by (1) signing our "Good Neighbor Covenant," (2) designating one congregation member to act as a liaison (by attending at least one meeting per quarter & distributing information back to their congregation), and (3) committing to host at least one immigrant-justice related workshop at their congregation each year!*

We believe that Arizona Style legislation is not the answer and are concerned about the affects that something like SB1070 would have on Florida. There is a national list generated by the IAIJ of those who have concerns about the ramifications of the recently proposed anti-immigration laws in Florida.
